Our Mission Our Vision and Our Plan
A church’s mission statement and ministry philosophy are
key to the success of its ministry because they function as navigational
tools
necessary to chart an accurate course towards a worthy destination.
Two specific words of commission direct Providence in her vision,
mission and plan. First, we must “GO,” which signifies
that true discipleship is a dynamic existence characterized by energetic
initiative. And
second, we must “TELL.” As followers of Jesus Christ
this community must
continue to tell people how to meet Jesus, and then develop ministries
for inviting all people to experience repentance , forgiveness, and
discipleship through the power of the Holy Spirit. Jesus’ promise of
his abiding presence extends to each new generation of commissioned
disciples. He promised to walk with us to work with us, to encourage us, and
to
empower us to transform lives and renew the communities around us.
Our Mission:
Disciples making Disciples, Transforming Lives and Renewing
Communities (Matthew 28:18-20; Isaiah. 58:12);
Our Vision:
“To build a church where lives are radically changed and disciples
are intentionally made.” That is to call seekers to a saving
knowledge of
Jesus Christ and believers to a
deeper commitment of service in the Kingdom.
Our Plan:
To become all that God wants us to be — to be Disciples.
At
Providence we define discipleship as “living as Christ would
if He were
in my place.”
This implies two things:
First: A life of transformation and dependence
on the Holy Spirit. And
Second: The development of holistic ministries that meet
the needs of
the whole person - ministries that transform the heart,
the mind, the
soul and the body, and ministries that restores broken
walls and streets
with dwellings (Luke 4:18-20; Isaiah 12:1-12). To use our
different
gifts to live for God to our fullest and share Him with
others so that
they can also live to their fullest, using their different
gifts. At
Providence we plan to live out our mission and vision through
the five G’s:
Grace - to personally appropriate and extend the saving
work of
Christ (Eph. 2:8-9);
Growth - to pursue Christ-likeness (2 Peter 3:18);
Group – to connection with other members in significant relationship
(Acts 2:46);
Gifts – to serve the body of Christ according to our spiritual
gifts
and passion (Romans 12:6-8) and
Good Stewardship – to honor God with our resources through
what we
give to the church and what we keep (Philippians 4:11 – 19).
